Open Floor

Open Floor

“Dance is not what I do.
It’s who I am.
Dance is reflection of my reality, my longings, my dreams, my fears, my pain, my power.
Dance is my teacher.
My healer.
Highway to life-force, pleasure.
Connection to my Purpose.
That is why I dance.
And so much more.”

About Open Floor Movement

Open Floor is movement meditation practice that is supporting our subjective experience through dance, for building muscular and emotional intelligence, mindfulness and soulfulness. We cultivate the life force in our bodies, that fuel our creativity, our connections and our ability to change and stay present to the experiences.

In Open Floor, through the dance we are expanding the possibility to include whatever is coming up in to the foreground of our experience, widening the range of our awareness:
•Moving with the feelings that are coming up,no matter how pleasant they are.

•Including other people that are in the dancing space. Allowing the movement to soften the tight spots in our tender hearts and stretch our capacity for relationship., true connection and honesty. Respecting our own boundaries and other person’s ones.

•Tracking repetitive thoughts or patterns that we tend to produce with our mind. In Open Floor practice we are trying to turn old repetitive thoughts into choreography for creative dances. Instead of “turning of your head”, we are learning to stay present with are thoughts, supporting embodying, awareness and fluidity.

•Including wild passions that are embodying us. Open Floor is supporting us to come to our senses and to explore the world of sensations, of body language and impulses.

•Respecting the limitations that we have.

What to expect on the Open Floor workshops:

Open Floor Movement Practice synthesises the universal wisdom that underlies all movement practices. Breath, freedom, awareness, deepening connection to self and to others, self-expression, creativity, emotional fluidity, mindfulness, community, meditation, etc.

In Open Floor you don’t follow any steps, nor you learn choreography. Rather, you are following your own impulses: how my body wants to move. On the workshops we shift from speaking with words to speaking with movement.

Go at your own pace. And get moving any way that feels right for you. Be responsible for your own body (stay aware of injuries and limitations). No matter what the rest of the room is doing, listen to your body.

Dance may bring up emotions. Put your feeling into movement-dance your boredom, sadness, excitement, anger.. Exaggerate it, get fascinated by it-on the whole really being where you are is the best medicine. Move how you feel and stay open to changing. Stay true to yourself.

This is a movement meditation and while its great to be totally ‘present’ and absorbed in your own dance, most of us can’t sustain that state throughout. The teacher will offer you different ‘doorways’ into this state. Know that everything that is alive has a dance, and your only task is to find and express yours.

On Open Floor workshops you can expect variety of music styles: from Electronic, World, Ambient, Classical, Drumms, etc. Music is wonderful healer and support . It’s there to catalyze movement. Love it or hate it, how you respond is up to you. Use everything that comes up as fuel for your dance.
Those workshops are beautiful opportunity to enjoy yourself, while at the same time you are supporting your physical, emotional and spiritual well being.
